The Haunting of Front Street

It's true, I am still building the Waypointer engine, but we really really wanted to try this idea out in a less official, more immediate way.  We were so excited to prove how much fun this is going to be, we just couldn't help but to jump the gun a little bit and create an augmented reality puzzle adventure down in our home town of Old Town Temecula, California.

Introducing "The Haunting of Front Street"!  The web site explains it in crazy detail, so you should check it out, but I'm also going to talk about it here, because it's so cool.

So, using your mobile device, you're now able to roam the streets of this cool little western-style town searching for riddles, clues and puzzles while you hunt and interact with spooks that are terrorizing the town.  Here are some cool things that we have built into this thing:

Augmented Reality Clues
Using your phone, you can wave your camera around and when it detects a clue, it will be magically revealed.  This adds an element of not just solving puzzles, but also trying to find them in the first place!

Digital Puzzles
Ghosts have been known to challenge you before helping you.  You may be asked to solve puzzles on your phone to prove your worth.

GPS Tracking
Ghosts know when you're getting close to them and will react accordingly.

Environmental Puzzles
You can't just stay on your phone the whole time.  Who wants that, anyway?  You need to pay attention to your surroundings in order to know what to do or where to go next.

Roaming Ghosts
By looking at the map, you may just find ghosts that are roaming the streets that you may not want to get near.

I'm so pleased with how this prototype turned out.  So far, the feedback has been amazing and we're really excited to put this into a more permanent platform and product.  There's still a ton of work to do, but it's coming along nicely.  Until next time.
